What is the importance of having a written and implemented sustainability policy? Is it needed? How to make?
To have a sustainability policy is one of the first steps for a sustainability program to be well developed. It is the policy that, if well written, and especially well implemented, will guide the path to be followed by the business and its employees.
And It is through this policy that at decisive times for the company, such as when deciding on new investments or hiring employees, managers and employees will take into account social and environmental objectives in decision making.
For example, when a hotel decides that the time has come to expand the number of rooms, if it does not have a well-implemented sustainability policy, it may decide to build new rooms anywhere and without any care for regardless of the impacts that these new units may have on nature and the community.

On the other hand, an enterprise that has a well-written and well-implemented sustainability policy will know that when it comes to building new facilities or hiring new employees, the managers will need to assess the impacts that this will have. Thus, the hotel may choose to purchase only low impact building materials, or prefer to hire builders from the region where the business is located.
A policy It is also important to show employees that the company is committed to nature and the local community, and that to work there, the employee must consider it when making decisions.
It shows the employee, for example, when choosing which food to serve on the breakfast, these should preferably be from local producers and, if possible, they should be organic.
Therefore, the importance of the sustainability policy to be well implemented. It's no use being aware only of the board, everyone in the business has to know and understand it. Every new employee must be introduced to the company policy at the time of hiring.
The policy is nothing more than a statement from the company telling all stakeholders how it acts on environmental and social issues and how its employees should behave on those issues.
