Our History
The EcoHospitality started as a website seven years ago in Brazil with the objective to disseminate information about sustainable tourism and help small hospitality businesses adopt their own sustainable practices.
The secondary objective of the website was to promote sustainable practices by increasing the visibility of the hospitality enterprises that develop good sustainable practices.
After the initial success of becoming the largest sustainable tourism information website in Brazil, we started running workshops and information sessions about sustainable tourism around the country. At the same time, we started to visit tourism business and destinations with good social and environmental initiatives and display them on the website.
Today the website has an average of more than 1,500 readers per day and has reached the mark of more than 3 million total views plus over 26,000 followers on Facebook.
In the last five years we visited more than 100 hotels and restaurants with sustainable initiatives in Brazil to study their sustainable practices and apply our assessment of sustainability. We have also visited more than 500 destinations/tourist tours (ecotourism, cultural tourism, rural tourism, community tourism and etc.) and we already have carried out more than 10 workshops and information sessions on sustainability.
In 2014, with a lot of experience in this relatively new theme, the next step of EcoHospitality was carrying out consulting and developing special projects for sustainable tourism.
Among many projects and consultations, we can highlight the project “Na Rota da Sustentabilidade” (On the Sustainable Route), developed between 2014 and 2015, where we travel more than 3,200 km searching for sustainable tourism initiatives to promote them to our readers and thus attract more tourists to these sustainable businesses.
The project was a success and gained partnerships with TV and local newspapers. Later the projected was crowned with the highest award for sustainable tourism in Brazil, the Braztoa sustainability award.
